Saunas are a wonderful thing, they are good for your body as well as your mind. A sauna at the end of the day will relieve you of stress and tension as well as leaving you feeling great.
While saunas are a good way to help your body relax, you can if you wish make the experience even more enjoyable by adding a few drops of your favourite essential oil.
Essential oils are mostly distilled, it is the common way of extracting the oils. During this process the plant material is placed inside the still and the still is sealed.
Steam or water is added to break up the plant material to remove it’s volatile constituents. These constituents rise and go through a condenser and are turned back into a liquid.
Since water does not mix with oil, the oil will be on the surface of the water. The oil can then be siphoned off and now you have essential oil.
Depending on the type of plant material used will determine the essential oil made. There are numerous types of oils each with it’s own aroma, use and health benefits.
To take advantage of the oils benefits just add 3 or 4 drops to your saunas water bucket before pouring it over the hot hot coals. Then just sit back relax and enjoy.
You can use them alone or mix and match to create your own aroma therapy. Some good ones to give a try are Tea tree oil, Rosemary, Peppermint, Lavender, Eucalyptus, and Lemon.
